Website Performance Tester
Enter a URL to measure its performance. The tool breaks down the request into DNS lookup, TCP connection, SSL handshake, Time to First Byte (TTFB), and content download phases. See exactly where time is spent. Useful for identifying bottlenecks and monitoring page speed.
returns
- data.timings
- DNS, TCP, TLS, TTFB, download and total times in milliseconds.
- data.timings.ttfb_ms
- Time to first byte from the start of the request, DNS and connection setup included. The same thing curl calls time_starttransfer.
- data.timings.server_wait_ms
- The server's share of TTFB: from request sent to first byte, with no DNS, TCP or TLS time in it.
- data.http_status
- Final HTTP status code.
- data.final_url
- URL after redirects, with the hop count in redirect_count.
- data.content_length
- Bytes downloaded. The request asks for compression like a browser does, so this is the compressed size when the server compresses.
- data.decoded_length
- Size of the page after decompression, with the method (gzip, br, zstd) in content_encoding. Equal to content_length when the server doesn't compress.
- data.primary_ip
- IP address the connection went to.
Fill in the fields and send a request. The response lands here.
Run it from your code
A temporary key takes one request and lasts seven days at 20 calls a day. Register and it becomes 75 a day, still free.
$ curl -s "https://apixies.io/api/v1/performance?url=https://stripe.com" \ -H "X-API-Key: $APIXIES_KEY" | jq '.data.timings'
questions
What is TTFB and why does it matter?
Time to First Byte measures how long it takes for the server to send the first byte of the response after receiving the request. A high TTFB (over 600ms) usually indicates server-side performance issues — slow database queries, lack of caching, or overloaded servers.
Why are my results different from Google PageSpeed?
This tool measures raw HTTP request timing from our server. Google PageSpeed measures full page rendering from a browser, including JavaScript execution, image loading, and layout shifts. They measure different things.
