questions

Is the HTML output sanitized?

Yes, by default. Raw HTML in your Markdown is escaped, so a script tag shows up as text instead of running. Links that use javascript: or similar schemes lose their href. If you need your own HTML to pass through, turn on "Allow raw HTML" and sanitize the result yourself.
